World record and WC gold.
Then Armand “Mondo” Duplantis is dissatisfied with the season.
– I think I have lost a little, he says to DN.
Armand Duplantis, 23, has for several years been at the top of the world in athletics. The pole vaulter has been superior, breaking world records seven times and winning a bunch of titles and medals.
“It was scary”
This year, Mondo has continued its dominance on the pole vaulting scene. Among other things, he won WC gold in Budapest, Hungary. The victory came at the height of 6.10, which is low for Duplantis. But it was close to not even being a WC for the 23-year-old.

Duplantis had a lot of problems with his hip and back thigh.
– It was stressful and took some time. It was something I needed to deal with, although I was going to give it a try no matter what. In a way it was good timing, because I still had three or four weeks from Monaco until the WC. But it was scary. I couldn’t exercise or run fast for a week. But it worked out, he tells DN.
Mondo’s sawing
Next year it will be with the body in mind and that it should feel good, so that it can jump well.
– This year there was a period when I didn’t take this as seriously as I should have. I knew the hip was “tight” but didn’t give it enough love. It is important to take the smallest thing seriously, otherwise it can quickly develop into something worse.

In addition to the WC gold, Armand has also achieved two new world records (6.22 and 6.23 meters) and won the Diamond League. Despite the many merits, Mondo was not completely satisfied with the season.
– I don’t think I jumped that well, to be honest, except for a couple of good jumps at the end of the season. Before next year the pole vaulting technique will get more space, I think I have lost a bit there. Not in the way that I had poor focus or lost motivation, but there was more focus on the physical, says Duplantis to the newspaper.
