Armand Duplantis is chasing new world records this week.
But this weekend he celebrated midsummer like all other Swedes.
– I was shocked, admits “Mondo” after the popular holiday.

The world’s best pole vaulter has not disappointed anyone this year. Armand Duplantis has only raced three times outdoors in 2023 and won all three times.

On Tuesday, it’s time again to chase a new world record with a competition in Ostrava, Czech Republic. As a recharge, the 23-year-old has spent the last few days at home in Sweden and did just like all other Swedes and celebrated Midsummer over the weekend.
– There is no better party than midsummer. It’s a very fun day, Duplantis admits in an interview with SportExpressen.

Mondo’s shock

It was precisely at a midsummer party that the pole vault star met love Desire Inglander three years ago. His very first midsummer party in his entire life actually and he was very surprised by the behavior of the Swedes.
– I was shocked. I didn’t understand how they could be up and running until four in the morning, says Duplantis to the evening newspaper.
– But it’s bright outside – so it’s probably easier to party a little more then.

Midsummer 2020 was a real culture clash for Armand Duplantis, but since then he has learned to love the holiday – just like a real Swede. Despite the festive weekend, the world star admits that the form is good as he continues to charge for this summer’s World Athletics Championships.
– I can break the world record any day, says Duplantis in the interview.
