On Monday evening, the 80,000 spectators at the Stade de France got to witness history when Sweden’s Armand Duplantis won the men’s pole vault Olympic gold with a new world record score of 625.

The King of Sweden was also among the audience cheering on the star Kaarle Kustaa and the queen Silvia.

When the world record was set again in the darkening evening of Paris, the Swedish royal family came to congratulate Duplant. The royal family shared pictures of the situation on their Instagram account.

In the first picture, Duplantis receives a congratulatory hug from the king. In the second picture, the king and queen are standing next to each other with Duplantis, smiling.

The Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet reported in his storythat has achieved two gold medals from Paris Sarah Sjostrom lent one of his medals to Duplantis so that the two could pose for a joint picture with the medals around their necks.

– I’m going home tomorrow, so we had to use the opportunity to take a golden picture together, Sjöström told the magazine.

The 50-meter and 100-meter freestyle gold medalist described watching the pole vault final as “unbelievably awesome.”
