Armand Duplanti’s perfect tribute to Daniel Ståhl after the World Cup feat – with a word that everyone can get behind

Daniel Ståhl won WC gold – and it couldn’t have been more dramatic.
Now the tributes are pouring in for Superman.
“The king”, writes Armand Duplantis.

The discus final in the WC could not have been more dramatic. It was one of the best finals in history, with a total of four throws over 68 meters. It was all decided with the absolute last throw of the competition, and it was Daniel Ståhl who pulled it off. Kristjan Ceh had been responsible for the penultimate throw, and then and there the Slovene thought for sure that he had won the WC gold.

The spectacular WC gold

The throw measured a rugged 70.02 – and it required a huge performance from Ståhl to take back the lead. And with his last throw for the competition, Ståhl stood for a heroic effort, as he not only threw far enough for gold. 71.46 was also a new championship record, and the whole Swedish people now seem to agree that Ståhl deserves the Bragdguldet for his incredible effort.

In the stands, national team captain Kajsa Bergqvist was in tears, and even Ståhl’s competitors were almost speechless over the performance.

– I couldn’t believe it… I just stood there with a smile on my face. Now I think he can break the world record, says rival Henrik Janssen to Expressen.

Duplanti’s Tribute

Armand Duplantis also sat in front of the television and was impressed. Mondo himself enters the WC competitions with qualifiers on Wednesday, and then the finals on Saturday. Duplantis and Ståhl are, of course, good friends after all the years in the national team, and on Instagram Duplantis summed it all up with a tribute in one word, which just about everyone can get behind.

“The king!”, writes Mondo.

In TV4, Kajsa Bergqvist also said that it was the biggest thing she experienced in an athletics arena, and the expert Carolina Klüft agreed.

– I can hardly say how big this is of him, she says.

She is supported by Alhaji Jeng, now an expert at SVT.

– To do it this way too, it goes up as one of the greatest Swedish athletics achievements ever, he says.
