Armand Duplantis arrives in Paris on Wednesday.
But during the Olympics he makes an odd choice.
– He has found another solution, says Kajsa Bergqvist in Max.
Armand Duplantis is one of the biggest favorites of the entire Olympics. The pole vault star enters the pole vault as the reigning Olympic and gold medalist, and despite only being 25 years old, “Mondo,” who just keeps getting better and better, has already won everything there is to win.
Confirmed Mondo’s choice
Duplantis has broken world record after world record and barely loses a competition, and while his competitors struggle to reach six meters, Duplantis reaches that height in almost every competition. Duplantis is one of athletics’ absolute biggest stars, and that perhaps requires a different recharge than most others need during the Olympics.
Armand Duplantis lands in Paris on Wednesday ahead of the pole vault qualification on Saturday, and the final on Monday. But Duplantis has chosen during this year’s competitions to completely ignore the Olympic village in Paris.
– He has found another solution outside the village, to be able to prepare in the best way. That’s right, there are different practitioners who have different plans to solve their preparation for, says the national athletics team’s captain Kajsa Bergqvist in Max, according to Expressen.
“Getting another peace of mind”
Armand Duplantis has done the same during previous championships, including during the WC in Eugene 2022, when Duplantis stayed in a different hotel than the Swedish squad.
– He feels that he is getting better conditions and a different sense of calm. He has had this type of setup before, says Bergqvist.
Carolina Klüft, who is an expert in Max during this summer’s Olympics, understands Mondo’s decision.
– There are not many who have the star status at the Olympics that “Mondo” has, and then life in the Olympic village can become exhausting. I have read about the American sprinter Noah Lyles who is having a tough time and is hiding in the dining room in the village, says the icon.
