Armand Duplantis was Male Athlete of the Year.
Now he is donating a large sum of money – to Upsala IF.
– We are very grateful for support, says the association’s sports manager.
Armand Duplantis was involved all the way in the fight for the Jerring Prize, Sweden’s most prestigious award in sports. Mondo broke two world records last year, but was still beaten in the voting by WC queen Ebba Andersson, who became the first cross-country skier since Charlotte Kalla to win the award.
Nice gesture
But Duplantis didn’t leave the gala empty-handed for that. He was nominated in several categories, but won Male Athlete of the Year after his absolutely fabulous last year, where he once again completely dominated the pole vault, continuing to push the boundaries of what was previously possible in the sport.
And for that, Upsala IF is now being rewarded. Duplantis competes for the association in various contexts, including in team championships, and in connection with Mondo winning his award at the Sports Gala, he also won the Cheer Award, which is awarded in collaboration with Svenska Spel. The sum of SEK 50,000 is to be donated to the youth activities of a Swedish sports association of your choice. And for Duplantis, the choice fell on Upsala IF.
“Very grateful”
For Mondo himself, it is happy to see that all those who invest time in youth sports are rewarded.
– Upsala IF Friidrotts’ youth operations work hard and spend a lot of voluntary time so that children and young people have meaningful and fun free time, says Armand Duplantis to Svenska Spel’s website.
It is not the first time that Duplantis has supported the association, and there is great gratitude towards the world star.
– Association sports face constant challenges and are perhaps more important than ever in today’s society. We at Upsala IF Athletics are very grateful for the support. It is very welcome and helps us to continue developing the children and youth part of the association also in 2024, says Henrik Wennberg, sports manager at Upsala IF Athletics.
