Armand “Mondo” Duplantis has had a great season.
Now he can be praised – and thus become the first Swede in 20 years to succeed in the feat.
Armand Duplantis, 23, has several great seasons behind him. In 2022, there was WC gold in both Eugene, USA and Belgrade, Serbia. He also took European Championship gold in Munich, Germany, breaking his own world record three times.
Mondo’s fine result
The following season wasn’t so fun either. Then it was Olympic gold in Tokyo, and Mondo thus became the first Swede to win Olympic gold in pole vaulting. 2020 wasn’t too bad either, when Duplantis won SM gold and broke the world record for the first time. And then he broke the world record once again on it.

This year has been no exception. The 23-year-old has won World Cup gold, broken the world record twice, again, won the Diamond League, and is ranked world number one. Now Armand Duplantis can be praised for his past season.
Can be praised
The pole vault star is one of the finalists in the ‘Athlete of the Year’ award, which is awarded by ‘European Athletics’. De Mondo is up against in the final is the Norwegian middle distance runner Jacob Ingebrigtsen and the long jumper Miltiadis Tentoglou from Greece. The finalists have been voted for by the public in social media.

Last year, Duplantis and Ingebrigtsen shared the prize. If Mondo wins this year again, he will be the first Swedish man in 20 years to take home the award two years in a row. The last time that happened was when the three-step jumper Christian Olsson won the award in 2003 and 2004.
Now the Swedish people can eagerly follow the Golden Tracks gala, where the prize is awarded, on October 21 and cheer on our Swedish pride!
