Armand Duplantis is not only good at pole vaulting.
He is a good sprinter – according to himself.
The Swede is so confident that he has now challenged the world’s best in 100 meters.
– I can bet a lot of money on that, he says.
Armand Duplantis is the pole vaulter of all time, and he has several world records to his name. One of the reasons why Mondo breaks record after record is his approach. Few pole vaulters have been as explosive up to the bar as Mondo, something experts see as an absolute key to any success.
The performance in front of the star
Armand Duplantis ran some 100 meter races during his junior years, but surely he would have no chance against Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, who has two straight World Cup golds at the distance, and who last summer ran the third fastest race of all time.
Well, not according to Mondo himself.
On Thursday, both Duplantis and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce were at the same press conference, and Armand Duplantis made the star’s jaw drop when he suddenly took the microphone and said:
– I would beat you. Yes.
“Can bet a lot of money”
Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, however, believes that Duplantis would have no chance, as she is quite sure that Duplantis does not practice very much sprinting. It all ends with Fraser-Pryce asking if they should bet on who had won, and Mondo didn’t hesitate.
– I could bet a lot on that, he replies, while the duo takes care of it all.
The press conference ahead of the Diamond League competition in Brussels then continued with the person responsible for it all promising a duel between the two, at 100 meters, during next year’s gala.
– Yes, next year you can have a duel over 100 metres, between me and Shelly-Ann, says Duplantis with a laugh.
