The best pole vaulter of all time.
Now Armand Duplantis wants to compete against the Norwegian giant Karsten Warholm – in 100 meters.
– I really want to do it, says Mondo.
It is not the first time that there is talk that Armand Duplantis, the best pole vaulter of all time with several world records to his name, wants to compete in the 100 meters. Last year, Mondo challenged women’s giant Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce in the same distance. The race has not yet been completed, but now Mondo seems to have two upcoming opponents in the race.
Unexpected outcome
It was during a press conference before the Diamond League competition in Monaco that Mondo suddenly challenged Norwegian superstar Karsten Warholm. The Norwegian is the world’s best hurdler, but at the distance of 400 meters. Since 2017, he has won gold in every championship he competed in over the distance.
But even though Warholm still deals with running, and Mondo with jumping, it is a challenge that Mondo is willing to take on.
– I really want to do it, and I think he’s hooked too. I think it is possible to achieve, we like challenges and to step outside the comfort zone, says Duplantis.

“Really want to drive”
Duplantis and Warholm were training in Monaco this week, and that’s when the subject came up. Both must be willing to make a run.
– It was a very long time since we both ran 100 meters, so it would have been fun to test just to have done it, says Mondo.
Duplantis has said several times that he is probably faster than people realize, that’s how the discussion with Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce came about.
– I really want to drive against Karsten. It probably won’t be easy for me, but I think I could give him some competition, says Duplantis.
