Armand Duplantis just makes everyone cheer with the most glorious promise to the Swedish people: “That’s the plan now”

Armand Duplantis has a feeling.
But after the WC gold, he now makes a promise about the Finnkampen, which makes all Swedes cheer.
– I want to compete, he says.

Armand Duplantis was just as connected and superior as everyone had expected, when the WC in pole vaulting was decided on Saturday evening. Duplantis was still flawless when it became clear that he had won WC gold, when the bar was a whopping 6.10.

Now explaining the decision

The only concern that existed before the competitions concerned Duplanti’s troublesome thigh. During the races in Monaco earlier in the summer, Duplantis unusually did not win, and afterwards it emerged that Duplantis’ thigh was cramping. During the WC final, however, everything seemed okay, so much so that Duplantis attempted a new world record, with the bar of 6.23.

Armand Duplanti’s father and trainer, Greg, strongly discouraged Mondo from jumping the world record height, risking making the thigh sensation worse. However, Mondo chose to jump anyway, and doesn’t regret it afterwards.

– It’s too hard to quit and it’s a World Cup too and I wanted to put on a show too and if I’d only made a good start it could have been a world record, he says to SVT.

The promise to the Swedish people

However, many have been worried that Duplantis will miss the Finnkampen, which takes place at the Stockholm Stadium next weekend. But now he gives a reassuring message – and a wonderful promise to the Swedish people.

– That’s the plan right now, but we’ll take it day by day as I said. I want to compete, says Mondo.

Armand Duplantis jumps in the Diamond League already on Thursday, and came during Sunday with a reassuring message about his thigh.

– It feels better than expected. We’re going to Zurich tomorrow and we’ll see what happens. We have to take it day by day, he says.
