Armand Duplantis attempted a new world record on Sunday.
But after the competition, André Pops confused everyone with his words on SVT.
– It feels a bit sad that it turned out this way, “Mondo” admits to Expressen.
Swedish world star Armand Duplantis attracted Stockholmers to the Stadion for the Bauhaus gala on Sunday. The goal was to break a new world record and “Mondo” also had three really good attempts at the new record height of 6.25.
Pop’s miss in SVT
After winning the competition on Swedish soil quite comfortably, the bar was raised to the new dream height. However, due to increased wind, he failed to give the crowd an unforgettable day, although it was really close.

After the pole vault final, SVT invited Duplantis to the TV studio, but when the 24-year-old delayed coming, the TV channel canceled. The host André Pops suddenly announced to the television viewers that Mondo was “not feeling well” and that was why he did not come directly to the television studio.
– We have received word that Armand Duplantis will not come for an interview yet. He has left a message that he feels bad after the competition. A vague task, but that it would take a while before he comes for an interview, Pops said in the telecast.
Mondo admits
The words obviously caused concern with only a week left until the European Athletics Championships. And it turned out that it was not true at all, but that SVT made a huge mistake.
– – How could he feel bad? From jumping pole vault? Has he had vertigo or, says Duplanti’s manager Daniel Wessfeldt to Expressen with a smile.
– No no. He signs autographs. He always wants to do that when he is in Stockholm. Just saying goodbye to the kids for an interview. He doesn’t want to do that.

Armand Duplantis was also forced to explain himself and admits that he did not feel bad at all. But that he felt great disappointment that he did not manage to break a new world record, which he was really looking forward to doing.
– If I’m sick, I feel good because I’m sick, Duplantis tells the evening newspaper with a laugh.
– I don’t know, I’m not that good at Swedish yet that way. I wish I could jump the world record but I am healthy and well. But it feels a bit sad that it turned out this way. You can’t ask for too much, at least we had sun.
