One of the hottest sporting events of the summer is around the corner. There is barely a month left until the World Athletics Championships in Oregon start, and the Swedish athletes are fully charged.
Beat new personal best
15 Swedes have qualified for the championship. One of these is Carl Bergström, who competes in the 400 meter hurdles, and who has been responsible for several really brilliant efforts ahead of the World Cup adventure.
The championship will be held in the city of Eugene, Oregon. Bergström has already been there earlier in the season and competed. Then he stood for a really strong performance, and broke his personal record by one hundredth.
– It strengthens self-confidence to have been there and managed to perform a good race. I’ll take that with me from there. It was extremely nice, says Carl Bergström to Göteborgs-Posten.
“Mondos” tribute
The Swede ran in at 48.52 seconds, a time that Armand Duplantis was enormously impressed by – and puts some pressure on his national team mate.
– He (Bergström) is a dark horse in the WC. I believe in him. Have what it takes, said “Mondo”.

– It makes me very happy. He is perhaps the biggest star in the sport. Awesome that he praises me, even though we are polar. I was not prepared for that, he says.
The World Athletics Championships starts on July 15.
