Armand Duplantis has had great success during the year.
Still, he wasn’t the pole vaulter most talked about during the Olympics.
Now “Mondo” gives his first words about the gender image that became the talk of the world.
The year 2024 has been absolutely fantastic for the Swedish world star Armand Duplantis. The biggest moment was of course the pole vault final during the Summer Olympics in Paris when he treated everyone to a historic display.
Duplanti’s success
First, Duplantis won the Olympic gold by a landslide, then he broke a new Olympic record, and then he topped it all off by breaking a new world record. All in the same evening and in front of a boiling Stade de France with 80,000 spectators.
– I try to be grateful and absorb everything, because there are absolutely fantastic things that happen, “once in a lifetime” things. These are very cool things that I could only have dreamed of a few years ago, he says in an interview with the Italian podcast “Passa dal BSMT”.

Immediately after the historic feat, “Mondo” ran out to his girlfriend, now his fiancee, Desire Inglander who cheered from the stands. Their victory kiss was televised worldwide and watched by millions of people.
Known gender image
But still, he was not the pole vaulter most talked about during the Olympic weeks.
– I broke the world record and I don’t even think I was the pole vaulter that went viral, Duplantis admits in the podcast.
The French pole vaulter Anthony Ammirati broke the bar with his genitals in the pole vault qualifying and became a world celebrity overnight. Now Mondo is speaking out for the first time about the bizarre thing that happened.
– I met him the day after the qualifier, I think he was almost scared. Because it’s a strange thing when the internet takes something that’s just stupid and it becomes so big. It didn’t go viral because you hit it big, as you might expect, but he has no idea that’s going to happen. He probably barely remembers the jump, or maybe he does, because that probably hurts, says Armand on the sex image that spread everywhere and is then asked if something similar has happened to him himself.
– I’m trying to think, I think so? It’s an unusual situation to find yourself in, but it’s great fun.
