Armand Duplanti’s first words after unexpected chaos at European Athletics – ‘Mondo’ reveals what happened: ‘They are crazy’

As expected, the gold favorite Armand Duplantis made it to the finals at the EC in Rome. The pole vault star entered the qualification at 5.60 meters, which he managed without any problems whatsoever.

That jump was enough for “Mondo” as several jumpers did not pass the 5.60 limit.

Mondo to the final

Duplanti’s qualification comes after a messy morning where the Swede ended up in traffic chaos and was very late to the arena.
– I already knew on the bus that I wouldn’t have much time to warm up before the competition, but then there was a bit of traffic. It feels like it’s like that every time I’m in Italy, I don’t know if they’re driving like crazy or what’s going on. But now I will probably plan a slightly earlier bus time before the final, says Armand Duplantis to SVT.

Pål Haugen Lillefosse, who came third in the European Championship in 2022, were forced to withdraw before the qualifiers. According to NRK, it is about a feeling in the calf this time, for the 23-year-old who had been one of the silver and bronze favourites.

The Norwegian has had problems with his hamstring before the EC and the championship had been Lillefosse’s season premiere.

In addition, German took Bo Kanda Lita BaehreEC runner-up in 2022, not further from the qualifiers after he failed to clear 5.60 metres.

The pole vault final will be decided on Wednesday.
