Armand Duplanti’s fine tribute to the legendary Ingemar Stenmark – the mighty promise to “Stenis”: “Promises to offer…”

Ingemar Stenmark’s new venture into pole vaulting has attracted attention.
And that’s something Armand Duplantis is happy about.
– It is noticeable that he has seen a lot of pole vaulting over the years, says “Mondo” to Sportbladet.

Ingemar Stenmark is a legend in alpine skiing. Armand Duplantis is the world’s best pole vaulter. Now the two fantastic sportsmen can meet, since “Stenis” started his new venture.

Stone ground and pole vault

It was SVT that was the first to write about Ingemar Stenmarks leaving the snowy slopes for the warm sports hall, to start practicing pole vaulting.
– I jumped when I was little and have always been passionate about the sport. I’ve thought about trying it sometime and now someone said “why don’t you try it?”. So then I got to try it and thought it was great fun, Stenmark told SVT in November.

Before Ingemar tried pole vaulting again, he was a big supporter of “Mondo”, and has been for several years. The 67-year-old has already been booked at Duplanti’s pole vault gala “Mondo Classic” in Uppsala on February 6.

Duplanti’s Promise

Armand Duplantis is aware that Stenmark has started to practice pole vaulting, and pays tribute to the former slalom skier.
– I have seen the clip, and he looks much better than if I were skiing. I have to give him that. It’s a difficult discipline, but you can tell he’s seen a lot of pole vaulting over the years and really studied it. Then I know he tried when he was younger. And it looks quite natural and I don’t see any fear, as I usually see in those who try it for the first time, says Mondo to Sportbladet.

Right now the 24-year-old is in the USA, but in a few weeks he will be back in Sweden for training in Sollentunahallen, which is where Stenmark also trains.
– So we will probably run into each other, says Duplantis to the evening newspaper, and promises to invite “Stenis” to a private lesson:
– It will probably come naturally if we see each other.
