Armand Duplantis won EC gold.
Then he sent a nice greeting to the Swedish people.
– Sweden deserves it, he says.

Armand Duplantis is the great giant of the athletics world and there are hardly any competitors to him in the pole vault anymore. Duplantis is so superior that the competitions are more about whether the Swede will break any new records, than about who actually wins.

Nice words to Sweden

When the EC final was decided in Munich this weekend, it looked exactly as it used to. Duplantis had won the event before he made his first tear, and it ended up being a completely superior victory, and a new championship record as well. Afterwards, Duplantis celebrated by wrapping himself in a Swedish flag.

And he says it means a lot to him.

– That is why it is so important, the championship competitions. I know that when I wear the Swedish flag, and have Sweden on my competition suit, I want to represent Sweden well and win gold. Because Sweden deserves it. I’m glad I could do it again, he says to Radiosporten.

“I can not complain”

After the race, Duplantis was satisfied with what he accomplished – especially considering that there was rain and debris during the race.

– It was a bit tough from the beginning. We didn’t know what the weather would be like. It was a little too cold, but when the rain stopped it was perfectly fine to jump over six meters. I can not complain.

Duplantis had not ripped once when he jumped 6.06. Despite that, he stayed and thus renounced the world record jump.

– It didn’t feel right… I was a bit heavy in my body after all the jumps, it just didn’t feel like it was the time today. I was happy with the gold.
