Armand Duplantis had an unparalleled year in 2022.
But now it’s time to start competing in the new year 2023.
Then the Swedish world star kick-starts it with a clever joke to girlfriend Desiré Inglander.
The world’s best pole vaulter Armand Duplantis exceeded all expectations in 2022 when he won every major championship during the year. It was WC gold both indoors and outdoors, EC gold outdoors, the overall victory in the World Cup and a bunch of world records at the same time.
Mondo was snorted
“Mondo” also received a lot of heavy international awards for his incredible achievements. The most weighty award was still that he was named the world’s second best athlete for the whole of 2022, beaten only by the WC gold hero Lionel Messi.

But despite that, Duplantis was completely snubbed at the Sports Gala when Sweden’s best athlete was to be awarded for the sports year 2022. He was nominated in three different categories but was beaten by the skating fan Nils van der Poel in all nominations.

Duplanti’s joke
The pole vault star then received his first award on Swedish soil at the Athletics Gala when he was named male athlete of the year. Mondo was there to receive the award and by his side was his girlfriend and partner Desire Inglander.

After the award, the girlfriend was extremely proud and published several pictures, see below, of the couple on Instagram along with the words: “Athlete of the year”. Then Duplantis had a stroke of genius and responded with a clever joke in Swedish that was praised by the followers.
“Athlete of the year in the 70s??”, writes Mondo and the comment has received a lot of likes.

The pictures on Instagram, see below, currently have over 10,000 likes and many have commented to pay tribute to the young couple.
“But you two!”, writes one user.
“You are so beautiful,” writes another.
“This year’s king should have received more awards,” writes a third.
