Just like last year, it was Armand Duplantis who was named the athletics athlete of the year.
The Swede also won the award for the performance of the year, and took the opportunity to give a cheeky answer.
– I wouldn’t say I’m used to it, but…, says “Mondo” after receiving the award at the Athletics Gala.
Three world records and as many championship golds. It’s the numbers that Armand “Mondo” Duplantis can take with him from the track and field season that has been. Unsurprisingly, the pole vault star was therefore named the athlete of the year, just like last year.

And “Mondo” was of course pleased to receive the award.
– I am very grateful and it means a lot to me. It means a lot, says Duplantis after receiving the award as athlete of the year at the Athletics Gala.

This summer awaits the WC in Hungary and Budapest, which is the big goal of the year for Armand Duplantis, and it remains to be seen if the 23-year-old Swede can then reach further heights.

During the Athletics Gala, Duplantis also received an award for “Performance of the Year”, where the WC gold and the world record in Eugene, USA, perhaps weighed the most.
Cheeky answer
In connection with receiving the award for “Performance of the Year”, Armand Duplantis also took the opportunity to give a cheeky answer, to the great cheers of the audience. Gala hosts Michel Torneus asked what it was like to break a world record and win WC gold at the same time, in the same competition.
– I wouldn’t say I’m used to it, but…, said “Mondo” with a broad smile while the audience laughed heartily.
