Armand Duplantis has broken 10 world records in his career.
And each time the monument in the Avesta has become higher.
But now the municipality is forced to redo the tribute, after clear criticism.
There is no stopping the world’s best pole vaulters, Armand Duplantis. This weekend he broke a new world record again with a mighty jump of 6.26 meters during the Diamond League competition in Poland.
Duplanti’s new record
So incredibly impressive when you consider that he won Olympic gold and broke a new world record just a few weeks ago. It is the Swedish world star’s tenth world record so far in his career and each time the monument in Avesta has grown higher.
The article continues below.
Next to the big Dalahästen in Åsbo, the municipality has placed the bar that shows exactly how high the home mason “Mondo” can jump. Ever since 2020, they have dutifully raised the bar for every new centimeter that Duplantis breaks the world record with.
– This position has really put Avesta on the map. It means added value and something we feel proud of, at the same time as we get new energy that allows the municipality to continue to grow, says the municipal councilor Blerta Krenzi (S) to Avesta Newspaper.
– I see how many pictures are shared on social media of people who have stopped. In addition to the added value, it is also a way to lift association life in the municipality. It should be known that those involved in sports in Avesta can go a long way and be noticed in this way.
Mondo’s monument
But it is not at all that appreciates the great tribute to Armand Duplantis in Avesta municipality.
– No, after every increase I get at least one email from someone who thinks I should do something else, the municipal councilor admits.

Now comes the news that the municipality is changing the monument to the giant pole vaulter and redoing the way it looks, after receiving complaints.
– We received an email from a person who thinks the signs are in the wrong order, and I can agree with that. We will make sure that the bar ends up at the top above the red sign with Armand’s name. Then it will be even clearer how high it is, says Blerta Krenzi and reveals that more signs will also be placed.
– We think it is easy to forget how many times we have raised this bar. It should be clear with new signs.
