Norwegian running brothers Henrik, Filip and Jakob Ingebrigtsen accuse father Gjert of physical violence during their upbringing.

It has been the big topic of conversation in athletics for the past week. In an interview with the Norwegian newspaper VG told Henrik, Filip and Jakob Ingebrigtsen that they were subjected to violence by their father Done during growing up.
Investigated by police
Gjert was also a coach for the running brothers until 2022 when they chose to end the collaboration.
“What we are about to write now hurts in many ways because it affects a person who has meant a lot to us and our career. It affects people we are close to and people who have never asked to be involved in a public conflict,” the brothers wrote in a statement to VG.

Among other things, the brothers described an upbringing that was characterized by discomfort, fear and violence.
During Thursday, several Norwegian media reported that the police are investigating father Gjert Ingebrigtsen for assault. He denies all the charges and says through his lawyer that he wants to cooperate “fully” with the police and is looking forward to giving his version.
Duplanti’s words
The pole vaulter Armand Duplantis know what it’s like to be coached by a parent. Dad Greg, himself a former pole vaulter, helps him with the technique. Mother Helena is a physical trainer.

During a press conference before his own pole vaulting gala “Mondo Classic”, which will be held in Uppsala in February next year, the 23-year-old says that he knows about the conflict in the Ingebrigtsen family.
– I heard that they had done an interview a week ago. I’m glad it’s not my father, says “Mondo” to TT.

Mondo admits
Duplantis thinks back to his upbringing and elaborates on his thoughts:
– I did not have the same situation. I think a lot of people might think that I had to pole vault and do what I do. Many may think that I have been pressured, but that is not the case. When I grew up and saw how some others had it, I feel that I have been lucky, says the 23-year-old and concludes with:
– I have excellent parents and conditions.

The Norwegian brothers, Henrik, Filip and Jakob Ingebrigtsen, have had great performances over the years. The latter is the biggest star with Olympic gold at 1,500 meters in 2021, WC gold this year and last year at 5,000 meters.
