Sweden once again took a double victory in the Finnkampen.

Recently became Armand Duplantis world champion for the second time in a row outdoors. “Mondo” put on a big show during the pole vault finals in Budapest and took a commanding victory in the World Athletics Championships.

But after the WC gold, the 23-year-old world star still hasn’t been on the lazy side. This weekend he was back in action with the pole and lined up for Sweden in the classic Finnkampen. Duplantis won the competition comfortably, but it was more difficult for the Swedish teenagers who came fifth and sixth. But it really was an unforgettable experience and a lifetime memory for both William and Linus.
– It was really cool to compete together with “Mondo”, says Norrköping guy Linus Jönsson to the local newspaper NT.

Duplanti’s gesture
Jönsson, from the club IK Tjalve, made his senior debut and will only turn 18 in October. Now he reveals the nice advice he received from the idol Duplantis in the middle of the Finnkampen, such a beautiful gesture from a big star to a young guy.
– We talked a lot, but not about anything in particular. But he thought I should switch to a stiffer pole for the 5.30 jumps. I did, but it wasn’t quite enough, he says in the interview and admits that it wasn’t the first meeting with Mondo.
– Well, I met him in Uppsala, at my first SM three or four years ago. But this was the first time I competed at the same time.

Linus Jönsson really looks up to Armand Duplantis as a sportsman but also pays tribute to the Swedish World Cup gold hero for standing up for Sweden in this way.
– It’s really something completely different to see him compete in real life, how fast he is in the approach, for example. But for me it is also impressive that he only comes here to participate, he says in an interview with NT.
