Arla is changing the packaging – so the milk package will be new

In July 2024, the EU’s new directive on single-use plastics comes into effect, which means, among other things, that plastic caps must be attached to packages with liquid.

The reason for this is to reduce littering and increase the recycling of plastic.

One company that was early on with corks that stuck on was Coca-Cola. Here you can read more about the EU’s new directive on plastic caps.

Arla is changing the milk packages

Now is the time for Arla to redesign its packaging according to the new directives.

– We have labored both with removing the corks completely and with keeping them, and have landed on the fact that we will keep the corks, says Max Wallenbergpress manager Arla Foods to News24.

It is the packaging for milk, skimmed milk, cream and some yogurt that will get the new caps. This despite the fact that it is really only milk that must have it, according to the new directives.

– We package milk, skimmed milk, cream and certain yoghurts in the same machines. It would not be practical to have different machines for that, says Max Wallenberg.

The new packages will be out in stores already next week.

– I cannot answer exactly how quickly it will go. The transition will take place gradually during the rest of the fall and spring, and we expect to be completely ready at the beginning of the second quarter of 2024.
