The arrest warrant also applies to President Ortega’s wife, Vice President Rosario Murillo.
The president of Nicaragua has been ordered by an Argentine judge Daniel Ortega to be arrested. The reason is the systematic human rights violations, the lawyer who brought the charges tells news agency AFP.
The arrest warrant also applies to Ortega’s wife, the vice president Rosario Murillo. The order is based on the principle that states can prosecute crimes against humanity outside the target country as well.
Ortega and his spouse are accused of, among other things, murder, torture, and deportations or forced transfers of the population. Ortega has ruled Nicaragua with an increasingly autocratic grip since returning to power in 2007.
