Argenta, Open Fiber: construction of the “Italy 1 Giga Plan” begins

Finale Emilia construction sites of the Italy 1 Giga Plan

(Finance) – I’m leaving in Silver (in the province of Ferrara) the construction sites of Open Fiber in the context of ‘Italy 1 Giga Plan‘: the project is part of the public intervention plans of the Italian strategy for Ultra-Broadbandfinanced and promoted by the Department for Digital Transformation of the Presidency of the Council thanks to the funds of National Recovery and Resilience Plan, and implemented by Infratel Italia. To the public funds, which amount to 70% of the project, a further 30% financed by Open Fiber is added. The intervention concerns areas not covered by at least one network capable of providing download connection speeds equal to or greater than 300 Mbit/s.

In the municipality, over 4,500 residents will be connected through aFTTH infrastructure?(Fiber To The Home) which will extend for approximately 267 kilometers with over 61% of it being created through the reuse of existing cable ducts and underground or aerial networks.

“An intervention that is an important and fundamental opportunity for our territory. In fact, there are areas of our Municipality where connectivity is now very problematic, an inconvenience for families and businesses. We are counting that thanks to this infrastructure, which given the numbers and objectives certainly has an impact, we can take a step forward that significantly contributes to increasing the quality of life. – explains Andrew Baldini, mayor of Argenta-. We tried to speed up the authorization procedures so that we could leave as soon as possible and we gave priority to the hamlets currently most isolated in terms of connections: Campotto, Bando, Boccaleone and Anita”.

“Thanks to the excellent relationship with the municipal administration in Argenta we can start construction sites to create the ultra-broadband infrastructure of the ‘Italy 1 Giga Plan’ – he explains Luca Baldazzi, Field Manager of Open Fiber-. The services enabled by ultra-broadband are numerous and extend into different areas, such as: telemedicine, Smart City applications such as sustainable mobility, cloud computing, and even environmental monitoring, management of public lighting, digitalisation of services for tourism. These are just some of the benefits that citizens, businesses and municipal administration will be able to enjoy thanks to the connection which can reach a speed of 10 Gigabit per second”.

With beyond 14.5 million real estate units already connected in Italy to its new ultra-broadband network, Open Fiber is the main Italian FTTH operator and among the leaders in Europe. To date, ultra-fast connectivity on the network created by Open Fiber is available in 240 large and medium-sized cities and in over 4,700 small municipalities.
