Four photographers from Aftonbladet are nominated for “Picture of the Year 2023” in several categories.
– I am of course happy and proud of our photographers. I think everyone maintains a high quality and am happy that they are being noticed, says Mats Strand, Aftonbladet’s director of photography.
The photographers are nominated in four different classes and the winners will be presented on March 14 at a gala in Stockholm. Aftonbladet’s Magnus Wennman has received three nominations. He has received two of these in the category “Daily life reportage abroad”. One of them is about how electric car production is dependence on child labor in Africa.
– I especially remember the feeling of climbing down the narrow tunnels. It was so incredibly claustrophobic, you had to carry yourself forward on your stomach, says Magnus Wennman.

Årets Bild has been awarded since 1942 to promote photographers’ good professional achievements. Magnus Wennman is also nominated for his photos of Yvette Tetteh who swam 45 miles to draw attention to the problems with “fast fashion”. He is also nominated for “Photographer of the Year”.

Andreas Bardell is nominated for “Sports Image of the Year”.
– I am super proud of the nomination! Incredibly happy that it turned out to be a sports picture, as I don’t do as much sports anymore, he says.
The photo he is nominated for was taken in the clubhouse at Enebybergs IP. There, SvFF did research on which form of game is best suited for the country’s 14-year-olds.
– When I entered the dressing room, I immediately thought that it will be a good picture, if everything works out. Which it did!

Pontus Orre is nominated in the “TV Sport” category for his report about how a tireless skeleton enthusiast, also the national team captain, tries to bring out the next generation of skeleton professionals.
– Beyond all the big sporting events there are small stories about committed people who love their sport. Think how nice it is that people let us journalists in so close to life, he says.

Niclas Hammarström is a freelance photographer and works a lot for Aftonbladet. This year, he is nominated in the category “Daily life report abroad” for his photos on the gang environment in Los Angeles, USA.
– The rope I did for Le Figaro was interesting to do. I got to meet many broken, lost souls with big hearts and a will to do good, he says.
