Arena of the Future induction charging ready for commercial developments

(Finance) – The ecological transition towards decarbonisation in the world of transport travels fast and from the experimental circuit “Arena of the Future”, Along the A35 Brebemi motorway, we are already looking at concrete development projects within strategic national and international infrastructures.

Today at Clear (Bs) was presented by the President of A35 Brebemi Francesco Bettoni and by the project partners, in the presence of the Minister of the Republic Mariastella Gelmini, the technology of induction charging for electric cars or DWPT (Dynamic Wireless Power Transfer), now tested in various parts of the world. The Italian pilot project coordinated by A35 Brebemi and Aleatica, a global operator of transport infrastructures with a presence in Europe and Latin America specialized in sustainable and innovative mobility solutions, is the one at the most advanced stage of experimentation and sees the cooperation of realities that are points of reference in each sector of competence such as: ABB, Electreon, IVECO, IVECO BUS, Mapei, Pizzarotti, Politecnico di Milano, Prysmian, Stellantis, TIM, FIAMM Energy Technology, Roma Tre University, University of Parma, Fire Brigade and Ministry of Interior – Traffic Police. This technology allows electric vehicles to recharge while traveling on dedicated lanes, thanks to an innovative system of loops positioned under the asphalt that directly transfer the necessary energy to the vehicles (cars, trucks, buses).

A system of “zero emissions” mobilitywhich includes different elements studied by the industrial excellences involved to interact with each other, such as asphalt, control units, cables, electric vehicles and 5G connectivity.

Only a few weeks ago, a document called “Decarbonising transport, scientific evidence and policy proposals“Which indicates in induction charging technology, one of the possible concrete solutions towards the set objectives, in light of the current discussion in the European Council of the Fit for 55 package, presented by the European Commission in implementation of the strategy of Green Deal.

In light of the various tests carried out and in progress on this technology, in particular within the Italian project “Arena del Futuro”, it is confirmed that the DWPT has extraordinary advantages. On the way to the decarbonization of transport through electric mobility, in the face of criticalities linked to the life and size of the batteries, induction charging can contribute to a transition towards sustainable mobility models that further improve the users’ experience in the field.

Among the many advantages of induction charging technology, research is highlighting: greater energy efficiency of the vehicle thanks to charging while traveling, a reduction in the volume of batteries in vehicles without impacting on the ability to load goods and people, an increase in the average life of the battery itself thanks to the fact that peaks of charging because it would be fed at intervals throughout the day. Once fully operational, the system will be able to contribute to improving the quality of the user’s journey, thanks to a reduction in stop times for recharging linked to the optimal combination of different recharging systems. All these objectives are also achievable thanks to the innovative technologies offered by 5G and application solutions based on Artificial Intelligence, which will facilitate the exchange of information between the vehicle and the management platforms, increasing road safety and travel efficiency.

There technology DWPT, in its dynamic and static induction variables, has already aroused interest in possible immediate commercial developments in Italy and abroad, also thanks to its versatility as, in addition to its use on roads and motorways, it is confirming itself useful and ideal also within other infrastructures such as ports, airports and car parks. “Arena del Futuro” proves to be an excellent example of collaborative innovation for “zero emission” mobility of people and goods.
