In winter, more specifically between 1 December and 31 March, all cars, heavy vehicles and trailers must be equipped with winter tires or equivalent equipment if there are winter road conditions.
On June 1, 2019, new rules for winter tires came into force, and from December 1, 2024, older studless winter tires are no longer approved.

All winter tires sold since 1 June 2019 must be equipped with a so-called 3PMSF marking, in the form of an alpine peak/snowflake, or be studded.

Studless winter tires that lack the marking will not be allowed to be used after 30 November 2024 on passenger cars and heavy vehicles.
Check your winter tires
Now prompts National Confederation M Sweden all car owners to check their tires.
– Before this winter season, it is important to check extra carefully that the car’s stud-free tires really meet the requirements. If you drive on older tires that don’t have the alptop symbol, it’s time to buy new ones, he says Carl-Erik Stjernvalltechnical advisor at M Sweden.
As said, studded tires are not covered by the requirement for 3PMSF marking, and are still legal to use as winter tires.
On trailers, friction tires without 3PMSF marking are permitted as winter tires until 30 November 2028.
