Are you tired of these inaudible telephone conversations, with poor, muffled and parasitized sound? However, it is enough to activate a free option included in your package to enjoy a high sound quality …
Do you want to make phone calls worthy of the 21st century with your smartphone, with high quality sound? Good news, it’s possible, and for free. Indeed, telecom operators have been offering an option for several years to benefit from a “high definition” sound, without parasites and deformations that disrupt good understanding of conversations. They rely on two well -rooted techniques: volte and vowifi.
These two modes actually use the internet to convey the voice, but in different ways. The first, the volte (for voice on the LTE network) operates the 4G mobile network and can thus be used outdoors and traveling, via operators’ antennas. The second, the Vowifi (for voice on Wi-Fi), operates for its part the local wireless network of a fixed internet connection: it can therefore only be used the phone is connected to a public or private Wi-Fi network, at home, at the office, in a hotel, in a restaurant, etc. In both cases, the voice is transformed on the fly into data packets in order to circulate via the Internet.
Volt like Vowifi only present advantages. First, audio quality is much higher than that of calls made by the standard mobile network, in 2G or 3G. The sound is clear and without cut or parasitic, whether we use the speaker and the microphone of the smartphone or a helmet with or wireless. Then make a call in volte or vowifi does not deprive the connection to the Internet during the conversation unlike conventional calls. You can therefore search for web information with your smartphone while staying in communication with your correspondent. Practical.
The good news is that it is not necessary to take out a paid option to take advantage of the volte and the Vowifi. If your mobile package includes a data envelope for the Internet connection, it is likely that you can benefit from HD phone calls free of charge. Just check that the option is active at your operator from your personal space. This is now the default case at Orange, Free, Bouygues Telecom and SFR. But among MVNOs (virtual operators like Auchan Telecom, NRJ Mobile, La Poste Mobile, Réglo Mobile, etc.), you often have to call customer service to benefit from it, when they offer it.
Note in passing that calls made in volte or Vowifi do not nibble on your mobile data package. They are counted as conventional calls. Then, you must also use a compatible smartphone (this is the case for all recent models) and, of course, be in a 4G or Wi-Fi covered area. Finally, you must check on the mobile that the option is well activated in the settings (read our practical sheet). It is enough to seek the option in the Android or iOS settings and activate the associated switch. Please note, depending on the case, the name changes: it can be called 4G voice, lte or same HD voice for volte, and Wi-Fi voice or Wi-Fi calls for Vowifi. And when you see the volte icon displayed in the status bar at the top, it’s good, the option is activated!
To take full advantage of the high definition voice during a call, your correspondent must also have the volte or the Vowifi. Otherwise, the sound automatically adjusts to the lowest quality. In addition, if you were to lose connection to the 4G network during the conversation, the call will not be interrupted. The mobile will rock automatically, without cutting, on the 2G or 3G network, returning to normal quality. And the quality difference will immediately jump to the ears!
