Are you overwhelmed by incessant notifications from certain WhatsApp groups? Instant messaging will launch a function allowing you to filter chatterboxes to favor truly relevant messages.

WhatsApp is a very practical messaging service for staying in touch with family, loved ones and friends. However, the number of notifications issued by the app on a daily basis can quickly cause the counters to panic. And as long as you are part of one or more groups, the notifications can become very intrusive. The smartphone keeps alerting you to the arrival of new messages and severely affects your level of concentration.

This is all the more problematic since some people are particularly talkative and can easily end up monopolizing the conversation. But if the situation can quickly become stressful, you can’t leave the group or mute notifications for fear of missing important information! Fortunately, WhatsApp is working to resolve this persistent problem. In fact, the specialized site WABetaInfo discovered, in beta version 2.24.21.22 of the Android app, a reminder notification feature for status updates. To put it simply, it will soon be possible to automatically filter group alerts.

WhatsApp groups: a filter for relevant messages

This new function will allow you to program the frequency of group alerts according to two typologies, namely “All” or “Relevant to me”. The second option allows you to only be notified of the most important messages, that is to say those with mentions, replies and other important interactions.

The default setting between these two options is determined by the size of the group. Clearly, the more participants the conversations have, the more likely it is to benefit from relevant alerts by default. Obviously, it will be possible at any time to modify the preconfigured settings in the notification options.

Currently, when notifications for group chats are turned off, WhatsApp will still send alerts for specific interactions, such as replies to their messages and mentions. However, many users may not understand why they continue to receive notifications for certain messages even after muting a group. This new feature will make it clearer and more intuitive how muting groups works by explicitly highlighting the option to receive notifications only for relevant interactions.
