Are you lost, broken down or in danger somewhere? Send a text message to a loved one or rescuer with your precise location. He will be able to help you by knowing exactly where you are.
It’s not always easy to explain to someone over the phone where you are to arrange a meeting point. If the operation is quite simple in town, with street names and numbers, it is much more complex to orally describe your location in the middle of the countryside dotted with small roads that all look the same. A situation that is all the more embarrassing if you, for example, have a car breakdown in the middle of nowhere. Or, even worse, if you feel unsafe and stressed in a place, especially if you are bothered or attacked. And the same applies if you are injured following a fall or accident in the city or in the great outdoors. Calling a loved one or a rescuer to come get you while trying to explain where you are risks wasting valuable time with more or less precise descriptions for an uncertain result.
Fortunately your trusty smartphone will give you a serious helping hand with a simple SMS. Whether it’s an Android mobile or an iPhone, the messaging app associated with the Google Maps or Apple Plans mapping service allows you to transmit your precise coordinates to your correspondent in just a few seconds with a simple message. Practical !
Your contact will then have a map on their mobile with your location as a reference point. Good news, the method works regardless of the type of mobile to which your message is sent. You can therefore send a location SMS from an iPhone (with Maps) to an Android smartphone and vice versa without fear of compatibility problems. Enough to get you out of trouble quickly. The only requirement: the device must be connected to a 3G/4G/5G or Wi-Fi network to send this geolocation data.
Indicating your location in a text message is as easy as sending a photo. In the texting app, open a conversation with the person you want to send your location to. Touch the button + placed to the left of the message input field. Then tap the icon Location on Android or Position on iPhone. You may need to allow the app to use your exact location. On Android, all you have to do is press the small SMS arrow at the bottom right of the screen. The message with your contact details is sent immediately. On iPhone, tap the option Send a mark. You can add a text message to explain the situation before sending the SMS as you usually do.
If your correspondent uses the same type of mobile as you (Android or iPhone), the map indicating your location will be displayed directly in the messaging app. If they use an iPhone and you use an Android or vice versa, they will be prompted to open the message in the appropriate app or in their web browser to view the map.
