Are you going to pay more or less taxes from 2024?

Are you going to pay more or less taxes from

New systems will allow certain people to pay less tax from 2024. Are you one of the lucky ones? We will explain everything to you.

Emmanuel Macron has promised a reduction of 2 billion euros in taxes by the end of his mandate in 2027. Several measures are gradually being put in place to achieve this. While some only concern households from the middle classes, the revaluation of the income tax scale will have an impact for all households.

Indeed, the Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire confirmed last September that the income tax scale was going to be indexed to inflation. On January 1, 2024, this scale will be increased by +4.8%, therefore modifying the tax bracket thresholds. The result for taxpayers is a reduction in the threshold above which they must pay taxes. “All those whose salary has not increased will see their tax reduced. detailed Bruno Le Maire, specifying that this measure would allow 320,000 employees to avoid having to pay income tax.

Thus, according to the Finance Bill for 2024, entry into the first tax bracket increases to 11,294 euros (a portion of the family quotient). Below this amount, the person is not taxable.

  • Then between 11,295 and 28,797 euros, the tax is 11%,
  • between 28,798 euros (27,478 previously) and 82,341 euros (30%),
  • between 82,342 euros and 177,106 euros (41%),
  • more than 177,106 euros (45%).

Taxes: Will I pay more or less?

This revaluation benefits everyone. As the threshold for each bracket is raised, a salary increase will not necessarily result in a move to another bracket, and therefore in an increase in the amount of tax. As for people who were until now not taxable, even if they earn a little more this year, the first tranche increasing to 11,294 euros (instead of 10,777 euros), this leaves a small margin.
