COVID FIGURES. The circulation of the Covid-19 virus persists, according to the bulletin published in April by Santé Publique France.
The Covid-19 virus is circulating “at low levels since mid-February” 2024noted Public Health France in the April newsletter. Weak but not zero. There are therefore still cases of Covid-19 in France and it is possible to contract the virus and get sick. The health agency also emphasizes that “THEARS-CoV-2 continues to be detected in wastewater, which suggests the persistence of circulation continues in the population.
3% of tests are positive for Covid-19
845 new cases of Covid-19 were declared by medical biology laboratories in week 15, from April 8 to 14 (vs. 785 in S14). The incidence rate is 1 per 100,000 inhabitants. The screening rate of 46 per 100,000 inhabitants, vs 49 in S14. In week 15, Santé Publique France reported a Covid-19 positivity rate of 2.6% (vs 4.3 in W14) in laboratories and 2.2% in hospitals. According to the Statista website, France has listed nearly 40 million cumulative cases of Covid-19 on its territory between the start of the pandemic in 2020 and December 2023
Consultations among doctors are falling
► Covid consultations SOS Doctors : in week 15, the number of procedures for suspected COVID-19 was 211, i.e. 0.2% of acts SOS Médecins (vs 0.3% in S14).
In hospital: 1,420 hospitalizations over one week
In week 15, the number of visits to the emergency room for suspected COVID-19 was 195, i.e. 0.1%. The number hospitalizations after passing for suspected COVID-19 was 82, or 0.1% of all hospitalizations. Among the hospitalizations in the service of resuscitation after going to the emergency room, 2 were for COVID-19/suspected COVID-19 or 0.1%. Cases in intensive care are more often menwith at least one comorbidity in 88% of cases.
Covid deaths
Since mid-January 2024, this indicator has been decreasing to reach a level weak early March 2024 (0.6%). In week 15, COVID-19 was mentioned in 0.4% of deaths. In total, out of more than 770 million Covid infections recorded worldwide, 7 million people have died, including 167,985 in France, according to the Statista website. With more than a million deaths, the United States has the most victims.
