Archer Jer Forsberg bowed to the United States To Matt Stutzman in the 1/8 qualifying round of the W1 class of the Paralympics.
The duo’s competition turned out to be quite an exciting drama, as the difference between the duo did not grow by a single point during any series.
Forsberg had shot at least nines throughout the competition. That would have been enough for the last arrow as well, but when it slipped, the result was a tie, 141 points, with the competition partner.
– You have to think about what happened in that case. Because it felt okay. Apparently it took so much time to launch, the Finn thought disappointedly after the race.
The solution was obtained by shooting re-arrows. Forsberg got off to a great start by firing his own into the penalty area.
The American answered this in his own turn by shooting his own arrow perfectly into the center of the board and advanced to the top eight.
– As soon as I saw my own replay arrow, I knew that there was unfortunately room in it, even though it was a good arrow, Forsberg commented on the decision moment.
Later on Sunday evening, Stutzman, who knocked out Forsberg, celebrated the Paralympic gold. He beat China in the final Xinliang Ain reading 149–147. China took the bronze Zihao He.
