April 2022 Patch Tuesday: Microsoft fixes 128 vulnerabilities

April 2022 Patch Tuesday Microsoft fixes 128 vulnerabilities

With its latest Patch Tuesday, released on April 12, 2022, Microsoft fixes 128 security flaws in Windows and its other software. Install these patches now, as some vulnerabilities are already being exploited by hackers!

If you use Microsoft software, in particular Windows 7, 8.1, 10 or 11, Office, Skype or Edge, install without waiting for the latest Patch Tuesday that the publisher released on April 12, 2022! Indeed, to believe the official bulletin, these are some 128 security vulnerabilities that this set of patches closes, 17 of which are classified as critical. And even two stamped zero-day, that is to say just discovered. By Microsoft’s own admission, one of these vulnerabilities is already being exploited by hackers, who thus have a means of causing damage to PCs thanks to an “elevation of privileges”. The number of issues corrected is quite impressive, exceeding those of previous months (71 in March and 48 in February). Proof that despite all its efforts, Microsoft always leaves holes in its rackets – but, contrary to what gossips spread, Apple is in the same boat as evidenced by the recent and multiple security updates for macOS and iOS … Still, the April 2022 Patch Tuesday seems unavoidable given the number of flaws it fixes, and the products concerned, namely old operating systems (like Windows 7 and Windows 8.1) and recent ones (Windows 10 and Windows 11), and desktop apps like Microsoft Office, Edge, and Skype.

Let’s remind those who don’t know yet that Patch Tuesday is a set of patches that Microsoft releases on the second Tuesday of each month (see our practical sheet to know everything about updates, Windows builds and KB patches) . To take advantage of it, just go through Windows Update by opening the Windows settings. Two scenarios then arise: either the updates are in automatic mode – the default option – and you just have to wait for them to be downloaded to install them after restarting the PC; either they are in manual mode, and you have to click on the Check for updates button to force their download before restarting the computer. In general, it is better to have the reflex to systematically check the availability of updates and patches at least once a month, the second Wednesday, for example, after the release of Patch Tuesday.
