Approaching at a speed of 90 km… Alarm in that country! Education was suspended in schools and dozens of flights were cancelled.

According to the South China Morning Post, the Hong Kong Observatory declared a “level 8” alert at noon today due to the typhoon approaching the south of the region at a speed of 90 kilometers per hour. The Education Bureau announced that education was suspended in all schools and asked educational institutions to ensure the safety of students.

AT LEAST 70 FLIGHTS CANCELLED

While the typhoon caused the disruption of airline flights, at least 70 flights, 33 departures and 37 arrivals, have been canceled at Hong Kong International Airport so far.

BUS SERVICES ARE TEMPORARILY STOPPED

MTR Company, which operates transportation lines for the city, announced that train and light train services will continue, while bus services were temporarily stopped in Tuen Mun, Yuen Long and Tin Shui Wan districts in the south of the region.

Star Ferry company, which provides inter-island ferry service, also stopped all afternoon services.

While the Hong Kong Jockey Club canceled the horse race planned to be held today, Disneyland and Ocean Park theme parks closed their doors.

“IF YOU ARE AWAY FROM HOME, START YOUR RETURN JOURNEY ASAP”

In the announcement made by the local government, citizens were advised to “avoid long journeys within the region and start their return journeys as soon as possible if they are far from home” due to the risk of strong winds and rain.

Koinu, named after the “Little Dog Constellation” in Japanese, became the 5th typhoon for which an emergency warning was issued in the region in the last 3 months. Previously, an alarm was declared due to typhoons Talim in July, Ma-on and Saola in August, and Haikui in September. (AA)
