Former Prime Minister of Portugal António Costa is the next President of the European Council and the Prime Minister of Estonia Kaja Kallas is elected as the High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy.

Prime Minister of Italy Giorgia Meloni abstained from voting for von der Leyen, but voted against the choices of Costa and Kallas. Prime Minister of Hungary Victor Orbán opposed von der Leyen’s election.
