The YMCA of Chatham-Kent is offering youth a chance to win a $1,000 scholarship toward their education through the Celebration of Youth Scholarship Program.

“The awards focus on youth who have demonstrated leadership, sensitivity to others, innovation, development of personal talents, overcoming personal challenge and service to community,” a YMCA release said.

Special consideration is given to youth facing financial barriers.
There are 11 scholarship categories to apply for, including:
- Agriculture and environment awardsponsored by Sylvite Agri-Services and The Andersons Canada
- Apprenticeship awardsponsored by Kent-Erie Glass & Lock
- Business spirit awardsponsored by The Frank and Mary Uniac Foundation
- Champion of inclusive communities awardsponsored by Community Living Wallaceburg
- Alan Stevenson memorial award –Canadian Mental Health Association
- Leadership/entrepreneurship awardsponsored by Municipality of Chatham-Kent – Mayoral Award
- Health sciences awardsponsored by The Frank and Mary Uniac Foundation
- Science and technology awardssponsored by Maple Mutual Insurance
- Sports and recreation awardssponsored by FirstOntario Credit Union
- Volunteerism and community servicesponsored by North Kent Wind
- YMCA youth leadership awardsponsored by Chatham-Kent Family YMCA Foundation
