Apple introduced the new MacBook Pro laptops with M1Pro and M1Max processors.
It has been announced that the 57 billion transistor M1 Max is the most powerful chip ever produced by Apple.
Apple first started using its new chips called M1 in its computers last year.
The M1Pro and M1Max processors introduced at yesterday’s event were the first update to this series.
“The extent of the performance improvement is impressive,” said Mlkako Kitagawa, analyst at Gartner.
Apple announced that the new processors consume 30 percent less energy while doing the same work with 8-core processors in other laptops, and the processing power is 1.7 times that of 8-core processors.
These claims have not yet been audited by independent sources.
Apple’s new M1 processor series uses technology developed by the UK-based ARM company.
Apple makes its own chips by adding its own design to it.
Until last year, Apple was using Intel’s chip technology instead of ARM.
Ben Wood, principal analyst at CSS Insight, says it’s positive for Apple to design its own chips:
“New processors have revived the MacBook line.”
MacBook Pro laptops, which will be in 14 and 16 inch sizes, use the new operating system macOS Monterey.
Apple praised the long battery life as well as the processing power of MacBooks at its promotional event yesterday.
Analyst Kitigawa reports that there have been signs of moving away from the MacBook Pro lately among workers in the creative industries, but these new computers appeal to them:
“Apple strives to impress the creative professional group that is its target audience.”
The new computers were introduced at a time of global chip shortages.
Apple manager Tim Cook stated that this problem may also affect M1 chip production.
In some news, it was mentioned that the production of the iPhone 13 may also be lower than expected.
Ben Wood says having his own chip design won’t protect Apple from this chip crisis:
“Apple may be a strong-willed company to negotiate chip purchases, but the market’s shortage of semiconductors is associated with manufacturing capacity.”
Kitagawa explains that the fact that Apple’s computers with M1 chips do not have a separate graphics card can make things easier in this process:
“The number of parts they have to deal with to acquire will be reduced by one.”
MagSafe is back
Apple’s new laptops have helped to abandon a criticized design decision.
This was the MagSafe design, which allows the charging cable to come off on its own with a strong pull.
“Users will be delighted with MagSafe’s return, because after investing a small fortune in a MacBook, the last thing you want is for someone hooked on the charging cable to drop the laptop and break it,” says Ben Wood.
