iPhone 15 series is now official and a new software feature comes with the new USB-C. According to a source code included in the iOS 17 beta released for developers, Apple may allow you to limit the maximum battery charge on your new iPhones. For now, this feature seems to be available only on the iPhone 15 series.
The feature itself is pretty simple – you limit the maximum charge to a certain percentage, which limits the amount of time your battery spends at full charge, which should theoretically maintain battery health over time. This, of course, comes at the cost of not using all of your battery, and is only beneficial if you like to leave your phone charging for long periods of time, such as overnight charging.
This feature is a feature that they already have if you own or are interested in an electric vehicle. As with all lithium-ion batteries, charging more than 80%-90% in daily use negatively affects battery life in the long term.
Normally, iOS displays a message on the lock screen saying that your iPhone will charge to its full capacity, and when this feature is enabled, it warns you that it will only go up to the set maximum charge level.
Seen on some Android phones Optimized Battery Charging This feature, which is different from the previous one, learns your charging habits and keeps the phone at 80% and charges the rest right before you unplug it.
