Apple has just deployed iOS 16.3, the new version of its operating system for iPhone, also available on iPad. On the program, functions to strengthen the security of access to the Apple account and some improvements.
It’s a habit: Apple likes to make updates on Mondays. And the apple firm obviously does not intend to derogate from this rule in 2023. Thus, after an update (16.2) last December, it has just published this Monday, January 23 iOS 16.3, the new version of its mobile system for iPhone – also available in iPadOS for iPad tablets, which is also in version 16.3 (see our full article on iOS 16 to find out all the new features of this system and its compatibility with the different iPhone and iPad models).
iOS 16.3: an update focused on security
No big revolution to expect from this version, Apple having focused its evolution towards security. Indeed, the firm makes its devices compatible with physical security keys such as Yubikey for example. These keys, which can be connected to a smartphone or tablet on the Lightning or USB port, act as a double authentication factor to access confidential information. With the iOS 16.3 update, these devices allow you to lock access to the Apple account. A measure that comes in addition to end-to-end data encryption on iCloud.
Another novelty – or rather a correction – of the Emergency Call function of the iPhone 14, which has triggered numerous alerts lately (see our article), provoking the annoyance of unnecessarily disturbed rescuers and the laughing stock on social networks. Now to avoid any false manipulation, you will have to hold down the power button and the volume button + or – then release.
Finally, iOS 16.3 also brings the management of the new HomePod 2 which should land in February, the addition of a new wallpaper called Unity which pays homage to the culture of blacks, as well as the correction of some bugs.
iOS 16.3 and iPadOS 16.3 are now available for updating your devices (read our practical sheet to find out how). Also note that the Apple Watch goes on its side under WatchOS 9.3 with some bug fixes – always appreciable – and the addition of a dial called Mosaic Unity.
