These new Gemini-powered capabilities will reportedly be available for Apple’s iOS 18 software, which is expected to arrive on iPhones in late 2024. The publication adds that the improvements will further Apple’s intention to build Gen AI features on the device. Such offerings include AI-based image creation and writing articles based on simple prompts.

The report also notes that Apple has been testing its own LLM since early last year, called “Ajax.” The company has also tested its own AI chatbot called Apple GPT, but sources claim the software remains inferior to Google’s. Additionally, sources state that Apple once started talks with OpenAI about using its software, but it looks like Apple will turn to Google.
