Apple and Sony would sign an exclusive partnership to bring support for PSVR2 controllers to the Vision Pro mixed reality headset.
While we thought that Apple would put its Vision Pro under the carpet following the latter’s disappointing sales, the Cupertino company signed a partnership with the manufacturer Sony to offer controllers for the mixed reality headset. According to Mark Gurman, journalist for the Bloomberg site and major Apple specialist, the Apple company had planned to announce this partnership several weeks ago.
If the terms of this partnership are still unclear, we already know that it would provide for the sale of PSVR2 controllers within Apple sales peaks. A fairly notorious fact since these controllers are currently not sold in stores outside of the pack with the Sony PSVR2 headset.
In addition to the possibility of purchasing PSVR2 controllers in Apple stores, this partnership would above all provide compatibility of the controllers with the Vision Pro headset. Although Apple has always widely communicated that the headset works perfectly with the fingers of the hand, this would allow the company to offer more video games for the Vision Pro.
Mark Gurman specifies, however, that this partnership is not only aimed at gaming since these controllers will always be more precise than the hand detection by the Vision Pro. This could therefore greatly facilitate the lives of users who use the headset for tasks that require precision, particularly with editing or editing software.
However, it is quite interesting to note that Apple did not design its own controllers for the Vision Pro and turned to a partnership. Would the firm be increasingly inclined to partner with other companies to support its products? We will think in particular of theiPhone 16 with ChatGPT to assist Siri, but only time will tell.
