Work pressure has been a major problem for years
The workload in the judiciary has been a topic of discussion for years. It is also not the first time that the focus has been on the Central Netherlands court. In the summer of 2020, it started with evening sessions, in order to make up for the backlog that had been incurred due to the coronavirus outbreak. This also mainly concerned police court sessions at which traffic offenses were dealt with.
At the beginning of 2023, the NRC reported on the quality of the judiciary. It would deteriorate due to more complex cases, legislation and too few judges. For the same reason, hundreds of judges and prosecutors even threatened to temporarily stop working in March.
