Apex Legends Mobile is over. Electronic Arts announced the cessation of mobile game services and the impossibility for players to be reimbursed. A blow for Respawn, as for the players.
[Mis à jour le 3 février 2023 à 17h01] When we were told that one of the most popular Battle Royales in history was coming to mobile, there was reason to rejoice. Apex Legends, universally recognized for its uniqueness and the quality of its gameplay, was released on IOS and Android last summer, attracting a myriad of gamers to the small screens. Often, this new game was compared in favor to its elder, in particular because of its myriad of game modes, legends, and its often less aggressive monetization than that of the PC and console version. Only, to everyone’s surprise, Electronic Arts announced the complete and imminent cessation of the game, through its subsidiary Respawn Entertainment.
It was through a blog post that the developer behind Apex Legends mobile announced its withdrawal from the App Store and Google Play Store. It is therefore pure and simple capital punishment for this Battle Royale published less than seven months ago, and condemned to close the May 1 next. In Respawn’s own words: “After a successful start, content in Apex Legends Mobile fell below our studio’s expectations in terms of quality, quantity, and cadence. It is for this reason that after working for months with our development partner, we have made the mutual decision to stop the services of our mobile game..” A decision that undoubtedly comes from Electronic Arts, which considered that the returns on investment provided by the game were not sufficient to justify its existence.
Unfortunately for players, the publisher also said that no player refunds would be expected in the coming months. The game has already closed its virtual purchases and only players with in-game credits can spend them, although buying cosmetics in a doomed game seems clearly meaningless. EA therefore takes a strict and brutal position where many canceled games had decided to reimburse players for their virtual purchases. Of course, this decision angered players still invested in the game. In the face of such outrage, EA directed complainants to the App Store and Google Play refund services, delegating the issue to Google and Apple. .
If you want to be reimbursed for in-game purchases, you will therefore have to file a claim with one or the other application platform. On the App Store, the conditions are quite clear, follow this guide to make a complaint. On the Google Play side, you will first have to check that your request fits into the reimbursement criteria of the platform. However, the in-game purchase refund is valid for 48 hours. But it’ll be hard to imagine the App Store or Google Play refunding your entire Apex Mobile purchases if EA and Respawn don’t take care of that themselves.
