A large police operation was launched during the night of Monday at an apartment building in Upplands-Bro, northwest of Stockholm, after a suspicious object was found in the stairwell.
– Persons who have been in the stairwell called in two minutes after midnight after they saw a suspiciously dangerous object in the stairwell of a four-story building. We have cordoned off and are now planning for the property to be evacuated, says Ola Österling, press spokesperson at the Stockholm Police.
Bomb technicians were at 02:00 ready to attack the object as soon as the property was evacuated.
– We have a large operation going on there right now with forensics technicians on site, and the residents are now to be evacuated to a nearby school, says Ola Österling.
Initially, information came that something had exploded at the scene, something that the police reject.
– Nothing has exploded, I have seen pictures of the object and it is definitely an unexploded object. On the other hand, there are reports that a window has broken in connection with the application of the object, says Ola Österling.
The police suspect that the object may have a connection to the criminal networks.
– We are investigating it as such, but how and in what way I cannot go into right now, says Ola Österling.
