The alarm about the fire came just before 6pm on Monday evening. When the emergency services arrived, they were met by a fully developed fire.
– The whole apartment building is on fire. It will probably take a while to extinguish, says Maria Engström, alarm and control operator for the rescue service.
At 7:30 p.m., emergency personnel on site estimated that the fire will take four hours to fight.
The VMA has been issued
Several rescue units are working to extinguish the fire and an ambulance is also on site, but no one has yet been loaded into it. According to P4 Västerbotten all residents have left the property.
An Important notice to the public has been issued to residents in central Åsele due to the heavy smoke from the fire, where the rescue manager urges everyone in the area to go indoors and close doors, windows and ventilation.
The property affected by the fire has six rental apartments.
