AOC CU34V5CW review

We take a closer look at the 21:9 widescreen monitor in the AOC CU34V5CW review content, designed for both work, school and games.

AOC company is one of the first names that come to mind when it comes to both gaming and business monitors. We have already had the chance to review the company’s different gaming monitors (AOC CU34G2X review, AOC 24V5CBK review). The new model, which is the guest of our review corner this time, differs from other models with its different aspects. This is what we can call both work and play oriented. AOC CU34V5CW reviewIn , we will focus on different aspects of this monitor and more importantly, its user details.

AOC CU34V5CW review

First of all, as I said, the AOC CU34V5CW model is a monitor developed for both work and school use, as well as games. While its large screen provides great convenience in the multi-application section of work or school-oriented applications, it also allows you to work more effectively in Premiere Pro or similar applications. This was one of my favorite points when using a wide screen monitor and this monitor as well. Working on such applications on a wide screen really allows you to be faster.

Of course, when we look at the gaming side, we see that there has been a significant increase in the number of games with wide screen support recently. It is now possible to see this support in almost every game developed for PC, especially if it is visually ambitious. While testing this monitor, I played games such as Starfield and most recently Alan Wake 2. With color saturation, clarity and wide screen, you enter the atmosphere of the game in a much more enjoyable way than on 16:9 monitors. After experiencing such games on a 21:9 wide screen, it is really difficult to go back to the 16:9 format.

Design

This monitor, which has a 34″ curved screen, has a very thin frame structure. When we look at the bottom part, we see that there is only the company logo and the notification light on the right side. If you like dark tones and simple design like me, you will also like the design of this monitor. The back of the monitor There is an analog stick on the side for menu control. It is possible to access many settings, including colors, input units and Picture in Picture mode. In the menu section, you are also allowed to adjust the size of the second screen in PiP mode.

When we look at the foot part of the monitor, we see that it is spread on a simple and square-shaped base. The monitor, which has a 1500R curve, also has an upward and downward slide adjustment system. The structure here is quite large, because as you can see in the pictures, I started using the Soundbar, which I could not fit on my normally fixed monitor, while using this monitor. In this respect, I can say that it was a good plus for me.

The monitor also has two built-in 5 Watt speakers. Of course, we should not have high expectations in terms of sound quality with such internal speakers, as we have mentioned in every review. I can say that they are at a sufficient level for daily use and are sufficient for moments such as watching movies, TV series or Youtube.

One of the most important details of this monitor in terms of design is located at the top. The monitor comes with a built-in webcam. There is a small protrusion on the top frame for the camera. Here you can see the lenses clearly. I can say that this 2 MP camera is quite sufficient, especially for online classes and business meetings. It offers an extremely practical use for such uses, especially if there is good lighting. Of course, you naturally lose performance in low light. A 1.8 meter long cable is also included for camera connection. Even though the end of this cable that you will plug into the Type C port is Type C, it is nice to have a normal USB converter on the cable as well. Not to forget, being able to use Windows Hello thanks to the built-in camera is also a nice advantage. Additionally, there is a sliding structure on the camera and you are allowed to close and open the lens.

This Type C port on the monitor is quite important. Apart from the camera connection, you can also use this connection for laptop, tablet or phone use if supported. Providing 65 Watt power flow also allows you to get rid of the extra cable clutter for such devices. So, if you have a Macbook or Matebook-style device, you can use it very effectively by plugging it into the Type C connection.

Speaking of connection, let’s talk about the input and output units on the monitor. On the back of the monitor, there is one HDMI 2.0, one Display Port 1.2 and the Type C connection that offers 65W, which I mentioned before. Apart from these, there is also a 3.5 jack input and four 3.2 USB ports.

In other words, we see that AOC offers a wide range of options in terms of connection options. This means that you can connect many different devices other than your PC to this monitor. By the way, you can also connect your PS5 console to the monitor. Of course, unfortunately, since PS5 does not have wide screen support, it is possible to use it with black spaces on the sides. Or, you can spread this image to a wide screen with the screen flattened through the interface settings.

General features and usage details

AOC CU34V5CW review

The AOC CU34V5CW model, which has a 21:9 wide screen, has a resolution of 3440 x 1440 and a refresh rate of 100 Hz. A VA panel is used in this curved screen, which includes all the technologies we are used to seeing now, such as Freesynch, low blue light and Flicker Free. The 100 Hz refresh rate provides a smoother experience in both your daily work and games.

As I said at the beginning, the benefit of a wide screen allows you to get a more impressive experience in story-based games, especially if they are visually strong. In addition, while you can see a larger area in FPS games, you can also control the map more in League of Legends style games. It becomes easier to use and master abilities, especially in champions with high impact power.

One of the biggest advantages of the wide screen is that it can replace the use of multiple monitors. I usually work with two, sometimes three monitors. While two monitors were of equal size, I sometimes used to attach a third, much smaller monitor in different usage scenarios. When I switched to this model, I of course reduced the number of monitors to one. It allows you to work much more effectively both in multi-window use and in video programs that I use frequently, as I mentioned at the beginning.

As a result, the AOC CU34V5CW model manages to offer a good hybrid solution for both work, school and gaming use. In addition to its simple and stylish design, details such as the camera are advantageous in terms of use. Working on a wide screen is enjoyable, and you feel the effect of this in games. Of course, I have to underline here that this monitor is not a gaming monitor. So, if you play professional or competitive games and even a single ms rate is important to you, such monitors that offer hybrid use may upset you. But if, like me, you play LoL or similar competitive games from time to time and spend time with story-based games outside of work and school, I can say that this is a model you can take a look at.
