Anyone who plays Starfield on Steam will soon receive a free graphics boost, without any mods

Bethesda is finally getting specific about Nvidia DLSS 3 in Starfield and says how and when PC gamers on Steam will be able to enjoy higher frame rates. Mods, some of which even demanded money from you, are now superfluous.

Without mods from the community, Starfield would have a difficult time with the players. These mods often bring new features that developer Bethesda didn’t deliver upon release.

This often includes comfort functions and additional options for the graphics settings. Especially with the latter, corresponding mods were available very quickly to implement Nvidia’s graphics feature DLSS. Recently, a mod developer even threatened players who stole his DLSS mod because they didn’t want to pay anything for it. Now Bethesda is stepping up and delivering the function with the upcoming beta update on Steam.

Gamers with an RTX 4000 series graphics accelerator even receive the exclusive Frame Generation feature. With this technique, an AI-created image is placed between two images calculated by the graphics card. This makes the playing feel even more fluid. Provided the game was installed on an SSD storage medium, Nvidia users in particular will receive an even more consistent frame rate.

Does the upcoming update include more? Yes, Bethesda hasn’t presented any official patch notes yet, but it has already given some insight. In addition to DLSS 3, the following content was mentioned for the beta update:

  • Adjustment options for brightness and contrast settings
  • Additional menu for HDR options
  • Further optimizations and improvements, but Bethesda does not provide any details here
  • In an addendum to the announcement, the developer also promises to support AMD’s FSR 3 in a later update. AMD’s counterpart to Nvidia’s DLSS has been available in version 2 since Starfield was released.

Is the beta update available to everyone? No, the download will be limited to PC players on Steam for now. In addition, you must register for the Starfield beta program.

To register you must do the following:
