Google’s new cell phones, the Pixel 8, will be released on October 12th. But if you’re hoping for the cheaper A-series, you’ll probably be disappointed.
With the new 8 series, the new Pixel models from Google will soon be coming onto the market:
Google’s new, in-house processor “Google Tensor G3” is used in all devices.
But anyone hoping that Google could soon bring a cheaper model onto the market will probably be disappointed. Because Google itself stated that no further model would follow in the near future.
Too many compromises if you were to offer a cheap model
What is the problem? Nanda Ramachandran, vice president of Google Mobile Business, said there are currently no plans for a budget Google Pixel phone (via androidpolice.com).
“We would have to make too many compromises for that,” said Ramachandran, adding that it would require “too many compromises” to bundle features such as the new AI smartphones, a robust camera and the accompanying security framework for 200 euros.
In the earlier models of the A series, the compromises would not have been so great: The Google Pixel 7a uses the Tensor G2 chip, which is also installed in the top model, the Google Pixel 7 Pro. Here you get more or less the same performance as the top model.
What’s happening right now? A lot has happened with the new “Pixel 8” devices and Google is offering a number of new functions:
For this reason, the price of the new models was also adjusted. Ramachandran explained that it wouldn’t make sense for Google to offer a significantly cheaper model. Because to do this you would have to reduce the functions so much that it would not make sense.
