If the prices of places in the cinema are up sharply, a tip exists to pay.
This is one of the leisure activities that the French no longer offer themselves. Or almost. It is not new, cinemas are less and less frequented. The latest figures from the National Cinema and Animated Image Center (CNC) attest to them: between 2019 and 2024, dark rooms sold 15% less tickets, in an epidemic or post-epidemic context where the trend was not already in the filling of the seats. Main cause of the drop in cinemas attendance: the price of places.
If a few years ago, it was possible to go see a film by spending only 5 euros, now, it is necessary to count at least double, and even sometimes more: some cinemas sell places around 15 euros. For the family economy outing, we’ll go back. Especially since these levels there, a ticket costs as much (or almost) as a monthly subscription to a streaming platform offering thousands of content. For many French people, the choice is quickly made.
However, there is an unknown possibility to lower the price of the session. In addition to the traditional rebate allowed thanks to the works council, another tip allows you to go to the cinema at a lower cost and millions of French people can benefit easily. It is indeed thanks to its bank card that important savings can be made: from 3 to 7 euros per place! People who can take advantage of this important discounts are those with a Visa Premier or Mastercard Gold card. However, it is not when paying its place with one of these cards that the price decreases.
To be entitled to an interesting reduction on the price of cinema places, holders of the Visa Premier card must surrender on this site and those of the Mastercard Gold on this. It is then necessary to create an account by following the instructions. This allows you to have access to a platform similar to a works council site on which it is possible to buy cinema squares at a reduced price, online, and to use them in the multiplexes of your choice.
Pathé, Gaumont, CGR… The big cinematographic channels all offer very interesting discounts. For example, for the Pathé, tickets are sold at 11.20 euros, against more than € 15 directly on the cinema site. In addition, for the CGR, places are offered at € 7.90 against € 11.10 online. Discounts which are therefore not negligible. However, these are not put forward by the bankers when choosing the bank card and the process is not the most obvious to benefit from these offers. The savings made, however, are worth leaning on it.
